"Just for Now"

I'm always so disoriented in the basement of Read. I'm pretty sure that they're really keeping a minotaur down here; I keep my right hook ready while roaming the halls at night.

Saturday didn't go quite the way we expected, which is both good and bad. The girls had a much better show than anyone expected, but it was really hard to read since we had one girl quit this week and another girl was sick. The ending block was really unspeakably bad because Emily, our sick one, was on the end of the block so everything was really, really lopsided.

And according to Sam, the girls "freak out" when I'm there. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. It's nice that I have that sort of effect on people, but on the other hand I wasn't upset with them at all so there was no reason for them to be freaking out. Hmm...

The bad news: we got a bronze rating and third place. I can handle the third place since I have no idea what the other guards looked like, but I'm really upset about the bronze. None of the guards in our division got a silver, let alone a gold. That, to me, just ruins the morale of the entire group. They really shouldn't have set the bar that high to where none of the guards are achieving the score to qualify for a decent rating. Of course, that could either light a fire under them to make themselves better, or it could completely crush them. If I was in their position, I'd probably fall under the latter.

On a slightly related note, can anyone identify the strange figure to the right?

My guess is some form of man-eating bird (perhaps a plucked turkey seeking revenge?) or something similar, but I really have no idea. The school's mascot is a wildcat, so they're not even going for that.

Nick's birthday part was, for the most part, enjoyable. Just a lot of silly bickering about reservations and dropped cakes and not letting the kids win games. Not that our lane was really worried about anyone beating anyone else because we all sucked. By some miracle, I did break 100 on the second game. The funny thing was that the second game was during the midnight bowling or whatever when they turn the black lights on. So for some strange reason, I'm better at bowling in the dark.

Hey, I'm not gonna question it.

I thought it was a dancer or a girl standing with her hands and arms above her head.

Yeah, I thought that too... But what on earth is on her head?
