"Bend and Not Break"

Ah, the first days of the semester are upon us.

My first consulting shift went shockingly well. There were more consultants in the library than there were customers, so we really just walked around checking computers that had been empty for hours and making sure unused printers didn't have paper magically disappear. I did find a computer that was left logged in though, so that was exciting. And I helped a woman quit Internet Explorer when it froze up.

But the highlight of my night was this little number to the left. We have a fancy printer in the library that's longer than I am and prints poster-sized projects. In order to learn how to format the prints (which is sort of complicated if you've never done it), we got to print something of our own. I chose the t-shirt design for Memorial's winter guard show this season. I wanted it to be bigger, but the size of the file was too small for me to blow it up without messing up the font at the bottom, but I still think this is pretty sweet.

The first day of classes was pretty tame. German was just as I expected, my interactive media design class is basically going to kill me slowly, M118 will eat away at my soul for the remainder of the semester, and my audio production drained my bank account as soon as I got back to my room. Despite paying an extra fee for the production lab usage, we also have to buy our own professional-grade headphones, a fancy little memory card to turn in our projects that I will most likely never ever use again, and a few other things that I already have, but would've been screwed had I not had them. Between that and the DVD I have to buy for German since I'm missing the showing of the movie due to the audio production class, I'm losing a lot of money really quickly. Not to mention the fact that since it's MLK Jr. Day on Monday, I'm losing two hours from my work schedule apparently.

More bad news: I'm no longer going on the floor trip to Chicago. It's really an unbeatable deal, with two days jam-packed with stuff to do and a night in a four-star hotel for $35, most of which we would get back to spend in the city. But since I have to be at a film screening at 7 and the bus doesn't get back until 9:45, I can't go.

But alas. Now it's time for homework and preparing myself for the wonderful things to come tomorrow.

What a bummer that you can't go to Chicago. I know you wanted to go over finals week with Jenna, and that seems like a really solid trip. is there anyway that you could work around it? You've probably thought this through. I don't know if it's for a class or what, but maybe your prof would like you do it another time?

T-shirt looks cool; did you know that Blue River Valley did the same show a few years ago? My friend was in it, and I loved that show! :) I bet you did already, though, because you remember shows far better than I do, haha.

Trying to make the trip work would be such a headache at this point, it wouldn't be worth it. The film is the subject of our first portfolio, which is due in a couple weeks, and this is a really hard-to-find film. Someone is doing a film series all semester at one of the theaters downtown of movies produced in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall, so that's how they got them. But I doubt I could track one down before the due date.

I would definitely remember the show if I had seen it. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen Blue River Valley, honestly. You'll definitely have to see our rendition of the show; I'm pretty excited.
