All Growed Up

I'll get it, I'll get it,

I'll get it! Someday

(but probably not today)

I will put away my childhood

and grow up to be

the man I envisioned,

put away the blinking lights

and pretty colors I once

so adored.

But probably not today.

It's time to take responsibility.

Or so you say, as if

I never thought of such a thing.

But I know, and I'll get it.

Someday. But until then

let me have the colors

and grab the blinking lights.

Let me drag them around,

make trails of fading light

in the shallow darkness,

with steady hands and processed moves.

I will grow up someday,

but don't push.

You'll miss me when they're gone.
