Today was move-in day for me and the vast majority of the former residents of Forest 2A who were coming back again for this year. Of course, it took quite a while to pack, but after that I went to McDonald's with my mom for a send-off lunch. Fancy, I know. The whole thing was pretty uneventful really, until I went over to refill my Diet Coke for the road, and I spilled the ENTIRE cup all over the counter and my shorts. So after trying to use the blow dryer in the restroom to dry off my shorts (and failing), I decided to just take my chances and let them dry on their own.
I made it to Bloomington with only a few mishaps created by a combination of my cell phone, my new iPod FM tuner (which is supposed to find a clear station on its own, but it has terrible judgment), and my new GPS system--which couldn't make its mind up about exactly how it wanted me to go to Bloomington.
As soon as I walked into the lounge to see the floor "alumni," I was informed that everyone was going out to dinner at Foster, which is on the other end of campus and they don't accept meal points until tomorrow. Claire, who is on the Welcome Week committee, paid for me and Elise and we had an... interesting dinner. It really isn't anything I can explain, other than the fact that we fit four people in Nathan's back seat, and one of them was a freshman that I had just met, and he was sandwiched between Elise and Claire. It was interesting, to say the least.
But it was there that we decided that a floor event will be learning the "Thriller" dance. To say I'm excited is a terrible understatement.
After that, I played beach volleyball with Claire, Nathan, and my old roommate Alex. We created the "manly shirtless men" and the black teams. Nathan and Alex were the manly shirtless men, and Claire and I were wearing black. We were absolutely terrible at volleyball, and spent more time chasing the volleyball/laughing at me than actually playing anything.
Every year, the HRC in Forest--which is made up of the second, third, and fourth floors--tries to do stuff together. And every time they do, the floors segregate themselves. So tonight's event was a pizza party on third floor, and of course everyone from second floor was on the right side of the room, third floor in the center, and fourth floor on the left. My side was by the pizza, so we did meet a fourth floor resident who spilled her drink all over Claire. But Elise wanted us to save her a piece, so Claire grabbed an empty box to hold the ONE piece of pizza. She then handed it to me, and I responded with my obligatory "is this a fat joke?" line, which turned into a ten minute conversation about fat jokes and me being the fat person in the skinny circle.
This might be why I have self-esteem issues, despite how terribly hilarious it was.
So then we decide we're done being awkward and we want to go back to our floor, and of course I lead the way: the fat guy with the pizza box. So I'm absolutely positive everyone who gave me a dirty look thought I was the jerk who stole an entire pizza from the party. It was interesting.
But the highlight of my night was Pam and Nathan's game of Guess Who. Rather than play the normal version of the game, their questions went a little something like this...
"Does your person frequent underage prositutes?"
"Is your person HIV positive?"
"Does your person give or receive oral sex on a nightly basis?"
"Does your person hate Jews?"
While the entire game was completely tasteless and offensive, I couldn't help but laugh when they both had narrowed their choices down to four people each, and they BOTH had the other person's card as an option. And with Nathan's final question ("Does your person have dick-sucking lips?"), he correctly guessed Pam's card.
All in all, I can tell that this is going to be an amazing year. Even if the RA's have to spoil our fun by instilling quiet hours during Welcome Week (quiet hours are for studying, and I hope nobody has homework right now...) and ruining Chris and Nathan's adventures in stealing Pam's refrigerator.
Let the games begin.
